real,- BERLIN-MARATHON - Flash Quotes

2006-09-24

Haile Gebrselassie,  winner real,- BERLIN-MARATHON

“Wow I was trying to run faster. I think my time was fine, of course you always try to run faster, but I know that I top the World Marathon Majors leaderboard and I will race again and at that time I can pursue the record once more. I was ok at half way, I know I had a chance, but the last 5k really hurt, I could not push at all.”

Gete Wami, winner real,- BERLIN-MARATHON

“It was a wonderful race. I’ve always wished to run in Berlin. From about 30k I know that I would win this race. The weather is good, the air is clear and the atmosphere is strong. I already know that I will be back here and wish to set my best time for me at this race.”

Kurao Umeki, 3rd man at the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON

“I was in 7th place, then people began to drop out and the pacemakers. I had no idea where I was but at 27 / 28 k someone told me I was in third place and I concentrated from then on. I am not all that happy with my time, but very happy with my third place.”

Salina Kosgei (2nd woman)

“I did not think I could touch Wami. I never thought I could catch her so instead I ran my race and went at my own pace. I think I did very good today and am very happy with my race.”

Monica Drybulska  (3rd woman)

“It was very hard and there was a very strong wind. I did my best to run the last 20 k the way I ran my first 20 k. I think I was at 6,7,8 place by ½ marathon and then I said to myself I must attack and the pace setters who were with me helped. It’s a great success for me.”

World record holder Paul Tergat (on phone from Kenya):

“Going for the world record is never easy, it is always tough. Absolutely I congratulate Haile for a great run. Everything is going well for New York for me. I am healthy and doing about 120 miles a week and my speed work.”
