26th Vattenfall BERLIN HALF MARATHON: Flash Quotes
2006-04-02
Paul Kosgei – Winner of the Vattenfall BERLIN HALF MARATHON with a course record of 59:07
He reflected on his victory and course record :
„Berlin has always been good for me. I broke the world record for 25 km here in 2004 and now I’ve set another record – the course record. It’s a fast course and I’ll give some thought to whether I might run the real,-Berlin marathon here in September. But I’ll have to discuss this with my manager first.“
Edith Masai – Winner of the Vattenfall BERLIN
HALF MARATHON, also setting a course record with 67:16
She spoke about her win and course record :
„I’m very happy to have won. It’s great that not only have I run a personal best but also broken the course record in Berlin. Before the race we realised that Deena and I were going for the same kind of time.We took turns in setting the pace. After around 45 minutes I thought it was a case of now or never. It was time to attack and go for the course record and a fast time.“
Deena Kastor – runner-up in the Vattenfall BERLIN HALF MARATHON but improving her own US record with 67:34
„I’m delighted but there’s a kind of bittersweet pleasure. Of course, I came here to win. Unfortunately I couldn’t bring that off, but I did set a personal best and a US record. Both men’s and women’s races had super fields and the spectators were great. The media had done a good job because everyone knew our names out on the course.I think I’ll have to come back to Berlin and try to win the next time.“
