David Kipkorir ran the fastest time in the world this year when winning the Rome City Marathon in a time of two hours eight minutes and 36seconds. Kipkorir 26, decimating his personal best by almost four minutes, bettered by four seconds the performance achieved by fellow Kenyan Benson Cherono when winning last weekend's Los Angeles marathon.

"I did not expect to win"

Daniele Caimmi whose second place in 2:09:28 clinched him selection for Italy's European Championships team in the summer, finished 30sec ahead of another Kenyan Laban Kipnetich. “I did not expect to win today but when I pushed at 35kilometres, I realized that nobody could keep my pace,” said Kipkorir, a training partner of Martin Lel, the reigning Flora London Marathon champion.
