7th “Burn off the Christmas Goose Run” through the Grunewald Forest in a snow flurry.

As is tradition, Santa Claus showed up at 10 a.m. at Mommsen-Stadium with his stuffed goose under his arm to greet the runners and invite them for a healthy through the Grunewald Forest for the 7th “Burn off the Christmas Goose Run” organised by SCC-RUNNING, the cult race at Christmas.  Like every year, Wolfgang Paech was dressed up as Santa with his wiggly goose under his arm; there was one more goose this time, which belonged to a runner (but which quickly fell victim to a dog who was along for the run).

Snow flurries for the first time

For the first time since 1999, there was winter weather for Bernd Hübner’s traditional Christmas recuperation run, and snow flurries turned the Grunewald into a magical winter wonderland. Just about 300 runners, some of them donning red hats, set out to the ranger’s house from the stadium with Santa and his goose.
 
Mulled wine and lard sandwiches

The traditional destination in the training area of the Grunewald Forest for wintry 10 km lap was the ranger’s house “Saubucht” (Bay of Pigs). Bernd Hübner and Wolfgang Paech gave the former ranger Hans Lippert a small Christmas present as a thank you for all he has done for the runners.
All year long, ranger Lippert provides fresh water for the Berlin running community when they pass the ranger’s station.
The ranger’s garden was decorated, and mulled wine and tea were brewing on two ovens, while Christmas treats and lard sandwiches provided by SCC-RUNNING were laid out on tables. The lard sandwiches with onions, chives, and cucumbers celebrated their premiere at the Christmas run, and they were a favourite, next to the Christmas gingerbread and mulled wine. 

Family Fest

As in previous years, the run was a family event, with the ranger’s family at the service of the runners while Horst and Sabine Milde, and Monika Hübner tended to the hot drinks and snacks.
Mark Milde, race director of the real,- BERLIN MARATHON, also ran in the race: "We are happy about the constant growth in participation in this race that has now become a tradition, with several participants from western Germany and from the outskirts. The easy run, especially after all of the calories from the holiday feasting, get the spirits moving again.”

A thank you to the city sport department

The participants were also able to get warmed up around a large bon fire to get ready for the run back—and to arrange their next runs.
Mommsen Stadium was opened extra for the Christmas runners so that they could change and shower.  We would like to express our thanks here to the city sport department for Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf and to the stadium groundskeeper.
