Top marathoner Bong-ju Lee entered Bewag BERLIN HALF MARATHON
His personal best in the marathon stands at 2:07:20.
2005-03-23
Bong-ju Lee, the Olympic silver medallist in the marathon in 1996, has been signed for the 25th Bewag BERLIN HALF MARATHON on April 3rd. This was announced by Race-Director Mark Milde today. Besides his Olympic silver the South Korean has a number of other remarkable marathon performances to his credit. In 2001 he won the prestigious Boston Marathon. He has been Asian Marathon Champion twice in 1998 and 2002 as well as winner of the Fukuoka Marathon in 1996.
Not many half marathons
34 year-old Bong-ju Lee has not been racing many half marathons during his career. That explains why his personal best of 61:04 is already 13 years old. But this spring the 25th Bewag BERLIN HALF MARATHON is one of his main goals since he has decided not to run a spring marathon.
Elite mens field more and more competitive
The elite men’s field is now getting more and more competitive. Among those signed for the race are the Kenyans Daniel Kirui (PB: 61:20) and Moses Kigen (61:38). German top distance runners Carsten Eich and Stephan Freigang hope to play a part as well. Among the favourites in the women’s race is Luminita Zaituc (Germany), who is the European silver medallist in the marathon from 2002. Last year she was 18th in the Olympic marathon and then sixth in the ING New York City Marathon.
