Berglauf-Journal 2004! New partnership
Mountain running is growing
2004-03-19
Mountain running has never been more popular! Not only the amount of participants stabilized on a high level or even increased, but the number of ambitioned organizers and mountain races did so as well. The World- Masters in Zell-Unterharmersbach in the Black Forest set new standards with a perfect organisation, a great atmosphere and 850 participants as well as the international races, including the six races of the Mountian running Grand- Prix, the European Championships in Trento or the World-Trophy in Girdwood/ Alaska. Traditionial competitions like the legendary race from Sierre to Zinal or the Hochfelln-Berglauf celebrated anniversaries, others started their debut. The former Danis-Berglauf is nowadays the Graubünden-Marathon which tries to attract runners with slogans like “Graubünden-Marathon, the toughest marathon of the world”.Despite the fact that the World Mountain Running Association (WMRA) was barely able to prevent another conflict with the traditional organizers of the mountain races, they are planning now to organize a Long Distance Mountain Running World-Cup to achieve more media coverage. After long discussions in Monte Carlo new rules were agreed upon, thus the WMRA is permitted to engage in the organization of an already existing attractive event to underline its expertise on the long distance. This is planned already for this year, Sierre-Zinal and the Mont Blanc-Marathon are possible events.
The national associations though will definitely have problems to pay
additional money to finance this cup. To be able to take part in the World-
Championat in Alaska many athletes had to pay part of the trip themselves and
in just two years they have to make a trip to New Zealand to the next
Championat…
The Berglauf-Journal enjoys a strong acceptance in the mountain
running scene! The competent guide for national and international mountain
races cooperates from now on with Runner’s World which will strengthen
the Berglauf- Journal’s position on the market! We are looking forward to
an cooperative and innovative partnership!
