Donuts or ... Rolled Pickled Herring?
At the 27th Berlin Pilsener New Year’s Eve Run („The Donut Run) on Tuesday, December 31, 2002, SCC-RUNNING is again expecting Berlin’s running community to join in the tra-ditional fun end-of-the-year run, dressed in costume.

There will be 4 different courses, from a 2 km course to a double-run over the Teufelsberg Mountain for about 10.3 km. Last year the run over the Teufelsberg had to be cancelled due to icy conditions, and an alternative route was offered instead. So far, 1,228 participants have registered — about 2,000 are expected, and registration is possible on Tuesday, December 31, 2002 starting at 11 a.m. at the Mommsen-Stadium, Waldschulallee 34 in Berlin-Charlottenburg. With 792 registered runners, the 10.3 km run is the most popular race (569 men/223 women). At the finish, every participant will receive a jelly donut (and if they are unlucky, one filled with mustard!). The victors receive a giant jelly donut and a bottle of SCC anniversary sparkling wine … the last ones across the finish line get rolled pickled herring! And there will be traditional mulled wine to warm up with afterwards. At 12 noon, shortly before the races start (12:15), there will be a traditional parade of the costumed runners at the start (the parking area across from the Mommsen-Stadium).
32nd Berlin New Year’s Day Run on January 1, 2003
On Wednesday, January 1, 2003, at 12 noon, SCC-RUNNING invites Berlin runners to a 4 km FUN RUN at the 32nd Berlin New Year’s Day Run (“The UNICEF Charity Run”) down the boulevard “Unter den Linden” starting at the Pariser Platz at the Brandenburg Gate.
No registration necessary—just come and join in and put a donation for UNICEF in the piggy bank.
This run is not competitive, everyone runs at the same pace, and there are no times kept. Everyone will receive a certificate. Please bring your musical instruments and come in costume. Instead of an organisational fee, SCC-RUNNING is asking for a donation for UNICEF, for the United Nations Childrens Fund. This race has taken place every year since 1972. The first one was organised by Heinz-Florian Oertel in Friedrichshain. Health allowing, he will give the starting signal this year, as well.
