Haydn MARATHON on March 30 in the Kammermusiksaal

The Berlin Philharmonics and the Haydn-Marathon. Hadyn with 104 symphonies by the marathoner of the composers.

2003-03-24

Members of the Berlin Philharmonics have often participated successfully in the BERLIN-MARATHON, including some with very fast times. That cannot only be due to the fact, that the course of the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON directly passes by the Philharmonie! The organisers of the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON are even more so pleased that the “MARATHON“ has now officially found its place in classical music. We recommend a visit to our musical “colleagues“.

It may sound a bit more athletic than it really is. But sometimes there are marathon races in music, too. For the sixth time, the Berlin Philharmonics are putting on a chamber music festival with the title "MARATHON". Following Mozart, Brahms, Schubert, Mendelssohn/ Schumann and Beethoven, Joseph Haydn will be the starred composer on March 30th.

All Sunday, from 11 a.m. well into the evening, the chamber music hall will be filled with music of the great classical artist. That sounds like long and strenuous hours. But the experiences of the past few years have demonstrated that a music marathon can be a real pleasure for the participants. The event is well-prepared and organised, both from a dramaturgical and culinary standpoint, and Karl-Dietrich Gräwe will see to an entertaining moderation.

With members of the Berlin Philharmonics, high quality musicians will take to the start, either as soloists or in ensemble teams—the Philharmonia Quartet, Timm Quartet, Vincent Trio, Philharmonische Virtuosen, Divertimento Berlin, and Breuninger Quartet. And the most enjoyable of it all is: unlike a marathon race, when a pause is needed, the participants can skip a session, go out an get a breath of fresh air, restore their strength at the buffet, drink a beer, and talk about Haydn and the BERLIN MARATHON.

All of that is allowed. That makes music fun, all day long and well into the evening.
